Indicators and examples of halal lifestyle in the city and urbanization from the perspective of Iranian Islamic culture

Objective: From the perspective of Islamic teachings, a good life is the desiredpoint of individual and social life for Muslims. The halal lifestyle in Islamic-Iranian urbanization, as a comprehensive paradigm, beyond individual and purely consumer dimensions, redefines all aspects of urban life, including the body, economy, culture, and social relations, based on religious standards and cultural values.Method: This research was conducted using a descriptive-analytical method.Findings: The results show that a halal city is a city in which physical and social spaces, from architecture and urban landscape to markets and leisure places, are designed in a way that facilitates collective piety and adherence to the commandments. Key components of this style include an economy based on halal acquisition and committed consumption, social interactions based on brotherhood and trust, chaste clothing, healthy and halal nutrition, and spending leisure time in constructive and ethical formats. At the same time, urban governance and governance institutions play an empowering role by establishing smart regulations and careful planning in areas such as advertising, land use, and market supervision. Although challenges such as cultural invasion, unfavorable economics, and destructive media have made the implementation of this model difficult, the key strategy is to combine religious wisdom with modern knowledge and the participation of educational institutions and families in educating halal-oriented citizens. As a result, the realization of this lifestyle is not a choice but an inevitable necessity to preserve the Islamic-Iranian identity and ensure the prosperity of society within the conceptual framework of "good life".

Objective: The aim of the present study is to investigate the relationship between halal food and human mood and level of consciousness.Method: The method of the present study is descriptive-analytical.Findings: Whether halal food is derived from religious teachings or proven to be healthy in current scientific research - of course, by strictly avoiding religious prohibitions - has a significant effect on improving brain function and having a calm mood. The intake of specific nutrients and several healthy dietary patterns with halal indicators are effective in cognitive disorders. Most epidemiological studies have reported a reduction in the risk of pathology and an increase in the feeling of calm, improved sleep and consciousnessin the consumption of foods that are of plant origin, fish, poultry and whole grains. In contrast, patterns based on processed foods, fats, snacks, sugars and alcohol are associated with an increased risk of cognitive disorders and dementia and intelligence. Conclusion: Eating a nutritious, balanced diet and cutting back on processed foods and sugar is crucial to staying healthy, strong, and smart! If the human body is balanced in terms of its chemistry and natural compounds, then so is mood, behavior, and intelligence levels.

Nitrate removal from agricultural surface water with nanofiltration system

Purpose: Nitrate-induced environmental effects include effects on surface water, toxicity, and lowering of dissolved oxygen in the receiving waters. Nitrate ion is relatively non-toxic, but its reduction to nitrite by microorganisms can pose serious health risks to humans. Nitrate can oxidize blood hemoglobin and convert it to methemoglobin, which disrupts the oxygenation of the body. In many industries, the climate used in production is polluted, and when it is returned to the environment, insurmountable problems gradually appear. It is recommended to use different membranes for wastewater treatment by nanofiltration method. Other effluents should be treated using this membrane and the performance of nanocomposite membranes made in the treatment process of other effluents should be investigated.Findings: The results of studies show that different discharges have a significant effect on the removal of nitrate from water. Conclusion: Membrane material has a significant effect on the reduction of water parameters.

Savigh: A beneficial dietary supplement, a legacy from ancient

Objective: Savigh (Sooyeq) is a functional dietary supplement with historical roots in Islamic medicine, produced from roasted grains and legumes. Despite its extensive use, limited scientific studies have been conducted on its sensory and physical properties. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of roasting time, particle size distribution, and blending ratios of various Savigh formulations on sensory quality and consumer acceptance.Materials and Methods: Samples of wheat, barley, rice, chickpea, lentil, and oleaster (Elaeagnus angustifolia) Savigh were prepared. After controlled roasting, the powders were sieved using meshes of 60, 70, and 80. Sensory evaluation was performed by a trained panel of 20 assessors (10 males and 10 females) who scored attributes such as texture, sweetness, acidity, aroma, color, mouthfeel, and overall acceptability on a 1–10 scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods.Findings: Results showed that longer roasting times improved the aroma and flavor profiles of Savigh and enhanced overall acceptance. Particle size with mesh 70 (<250 µm) provided the most desirable texture and mouthfeel. Among blended formulations, a 2:3 ratio of oleaster to chickpea Savigh yielded the highest sensory acceptance in the “bone-strengthening” Savigh. For the “mixed” formulation, a 1:2 ratio of complementary to base Savighs resulted in softer texture and more pleasant aroma. Conclusion: Sensory quality of Savigh is strongly influenced by roasting time and particle size. Proper blending of oleaster and chickpea Savigh can significantly reduce roughness caused by oleaster seeds and improve consumer acceptability. The identified optimal ratios may serve as a practical guideline for industrial-scale production of high-quality Savigh formulations.

Examining the Impact of Countries’ Economic Status on Healthy Food Consumption Patterns

A healthy dietary pattern depends on a well-functioning food system, comprising the food supply chain, food environment, consumer behavior, and external drivers. These interconnected components influence dietary choices and health outcomes. Economic conditions—both macro and micro—play a critical role in shaping food availability, affordability, and consumption.
This descriptive study examines the caloric price of various food items across countries with different income levels and evaluates the distribution of healthy diets based on national income classifications. Findings show that dark leafy greens have high caloric prices in all countries, regardless of income level, limiting their accessibility. Processed red meat is also consistently expensive. Globally, about 32% of the population cannot afford a healthy diet. This rate reaches 72.1% (896 million people) in Sub-Saharan Africa, while only 4.3% (16.7 million people) in North America face this issue. Asia has the largest number of people lacking access to healthy nutrition—over one billion. In Iran, as of 2024, 15.8% of the population was unable to afford a healthy diet, with food accounting for 28% of household expenditures and per capita food spending at $449.
To promote equitable nutrition, access to healthy food must be improved. At the macro level, agricultural, trade, and market policies should be reformed to increase supply and reduce prices. At the household level, targeted subsidies, nutrition education, and promotion of home-cooked meals are essential to improve access and dietary behavior.

Investigation of the antioxidant properties of peptides obtained from enzymatic hydrolysis of orange seed protein and their application in the production of functional sausages

Introduction:Defatted flour of orange seed contains about 26% protein, making it a rich and cost-effective source for producing plant-based proteins and peptides.
Methods:In this study, protein was extracted from the defatted orange seed flour, and then the resulting protein concentrate (76% protein) was hydrolyzed using the enzyme pepsin at various enzyme-to-substrate ratios (1-3%) and time intervals (2-5 hours) at optimum temperature. The hydrolyzed proteins with the best antioxidant properties were selected and applied in the laboratory production of fish sausage containing hydrolyzed orange seed protein. The antioxidant activity (iron ion chelating ability,Thiobarbituric Acid Index(TBA))of the samples was then measured during the storage period.
Results:The results showed that the highest bioactivity was found in the hydrolyzed treatments with pepsin enzyme, specifically in the optimal treatment with a 3% W/W and a hydrolysis time of 3.5 hours. Generally, the use of hydrolyzed protein in fish sausage formulation demonstrated that increasing the concentration of hydrolyzed orange seed protein from 0.5% to 2.5% significantly increased the iron ion chelating activity and decreased the thiobarbituric acid index of the samples. The increase in antioxidant capacity of the sausage with higher concentrations of hydrolyzed protein may be attributed to the antioxidant potential of the hydrolyzed protein itself.
Conclusion:Overall, the formulation of fish sausage containing 1.5% hydrolyzed orange seed protein, as a product with high nutritional value and without preservatives, has the potential for industrial production and market supply and can be used for the production of hydrolyzed proteins and bioactive peptides with suitable quality and high antioxidant properties.

Background and purpose:Introduction: The progress of an Islamic society goes beyond material development and is rooted in the integration of divine, moral, and human values. In Islamic sources—particularly the Holy Qur’an and the narrations of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS)—a set of indicators for genuine advancement is emphasized, reflecting the comprehensive growth of human beings in both individual and social dimensions.
Materials and Methods: This study employs a descriptive-analytical method with a documentary approach to examine the moral, individual, and social indicators influencing the progress of Islamic society based on religious texts. Data were collected from Qur’anic verses, authentic Hadiths, and scholarly Islamic works, and analyzed through content analysis.
Findings: The results indicate that elements such as self-purification and moral growth, pursuit of knowledge, jihad-oriented spirit and continuous effort, lawful work and livelihood, perseverance in the path of truth, responsibility, and loyalty to commitments play decisive roles in building an advanced and virtuous society. Internalizing these principles in individuals leads to moral, spiritual, scientific, economic, and social flourishing.
Conclusion: Islamic teachings emphasize that the combination of faith, morality, knowledge, and continuous effort is the key to personal happiness and sustainable social development. Therefore, genuine progress in an Islamic society is attainable only through the realization of these values; without them, any form of development remains superficial and unstable.

The health risk of consuming prohibited glands and organs according to Islamic slaughtering principles.

In the noble religion of Islam, nothing is prohibited unless its prohibition is explicitly stated in the verses of the Qur’an or in authentic hadiths from the Prophet’s (PBUH) tradition. Islamic law grants people the freedom to eat and drink whatever they desire, provided it is not forbidden. The consumption of fifteen parts from halal animals (such as cattle, sheep, goats, birds, etc.) is considered haram, one of which is the glands (known as "doshool"). Studies have shown that lymph nodes or glands are common sites for accumulation of a pathogenic parasite called Linguatula serrata. Humans may contract linguatuliasis by consuming infected lymphatic glands. In some countries, the consumption of intestinal lymph nodes of animals—especially sheep and goats—is common and represents one of the primary pathways for human infection by this parasite. The prevalence of Linguatula serrata in livestock in the Middle East, including Iran, is notably high. Therefore, it can be concluded that the religious prohibition of lymph node tissue in Islam probably helps reduce the risk of human linguatoliasis in Muslim countries such as Iran. Therefore, it seems that avoiding the consumption of forbidden animal parts can sometimes be effective to some extent in preventing the spread of some parasitic infections.

An Integrative Analysis of Iranian Dietary Patterns Based on Statistical Data and the Islamic Principles of Halal and Tayyib in Promoting Public Health

This interdisciplinary study investigates Iranian dietary patterns by integrating statistical social data with religious teachings. Findings reveal that visiting fast-food restaurants 45 times annually, soft drink consumption by 95% of individuals, and overeating due to dessert consumption by 60% of Iranians pose serious threats to public health. In contrast, family dining (85%) and women’s role in managing household nutrition (70%) align with Islamic teachings and contribute to physical and psychological well-being. Religious analysis based on the Quran and Hadith highlights the principles of “halal and wholesome food,” “moderation and avoidance of extravagance,” and “gratitude,” which provide a framework for reforming dietary patterns and preventing metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. The study concludes that improving nutrition in Iran requires a combination of economic policy, educational training, and religious guidance. Ultimately, this research proposes an integrative model that can serve as a guideline for families, policymakers, and scholars to enhance public health and reduce generational gaps in dietary behavior. By bridging statistical evidence with cultural and religious insights, the study emphasizes the necessity of a holistic approach to nutrition that respects both scientific standards and spiritual values, thereby contributing to sustainable health promotion in Iranian society.

Gelatin, as one of the most widely used additives in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries, has always been the subject of jurisprudential and legal disputes due to the diversity in the origin of production (halal animals, haram meat, religious or non-Islamic slaughter). This study was conducted with the aim of comprehensively examining the jurisprudential foundations related to the halality or prohibition of consuming gelatin. Topics such as the rule of purity, the rule of transformation, necessity, obedience, and the general principles of purity and impurity in Imami and Sunni jurisprudence have been the basis of this analysis. Also, the application of contemporary views of jurists and official inquiries regarding the consumption of imported and pharmaceutical gelatin in unavoidable cases has been examined. On the other hand, examining the gelatin production process from a scientific perspective shows that in many cases, a structural change to the extent of transformation is achieved, which can be effective in purification and halality. This research attempts to provide a clear, documented, and applicable answer to the issue of the hality or sanctity of gelatin in Islamic jurisprudence, using a comparative approach.

Investigating the validity and sanctity of using transgenic cereals for livestock and poultry

Ensuring food security in the 21st century is facing increasing challenges. Agricultural biotechnology and transgenic plants have been proposed as effective solutions to increase production. Given that the majority of transgenic grains, such as corn and soybeans, are consumed in livestock and poultry feed, examining the jurisprudential ruling and safety of these products is of additional importance. This study aims to explain the jurisprudential-argumentative ruling on the use of transgenic feed and analyze its relationship with scientific data. The present study, with a qualitative approach and descriptive-analytical design, has conducted a comparative study of jurisprudential, scientific, and legal sources. The findings show that evidence based on permissibility (such as "authenticity of permissibility") has argumentative superiority over evidence based on "probability of harm"). The majority of jurists' fatwas are based on "conditional permissibility" that confirms the legitimacy of the technology and makes consumption conditional on the absence of "significant harm" by experts. From a scientific perspective, a systematic review of studies indicates a “lack of evidence of risk” in animals fed GM feed, and the evidence supports the complete breakdown of DNA and recombinant proteins in the animal’s digestive tract. As a result, the initial and current ruling on the use of approved GM feed is “permissible.” This ruling is not absolute, but “conditional and dynamic,” and depends on the existence of rigorous scientific monitoring and the absence of future evidence of harm. This approach, while utilizing technology, emphasizes the precautionary principle and ongoing monitoring.

Formulating the meaning of transformation from the point of view of jurisprudence and matching it with transformation in empirical knowledge

This research deals with a comprehensive and multifaceted analysis of the concept of "Istahālah" as one of the purported terms in Imami jurisprudence. The present research, adopting a descriptive-analytical approach, first examines the historical evolution of this rule from the words of early jurists to the detailed analyses of later jurists, especially the turning point created by Sheikh Ansari. Accordingly, it is clear that the main dispute of jurists was not over the principle of purported purport of Istahālah, but over the recognition of instances and realization of "true change of subject". In the following, the jurisprudential foundations of the rule, based on the rational-customary principle of "the disappearance of the subject of the ruling with the disappearance of its subject" (intifā al-hikam bantifā mahsouh), and the main criterion for its recognition, namely "change of name from the perspective of custom", are explained. This article also deals with the relativization of transformation with the similar concept of “revolution” and explores the three approaches of synonymy, contrast, and distinction based on reason. The final part of the research, by entering the interdisciplinary field, discusses the challenge of adapting the “conventional” criterion to the achievements of the “empirical sciences” and shows how precise chemical tools can be a guide for jurisprudence in detecting the essential changes of substances and determining instances of transformation, especially in complex and industrial cases. Finally, this research emphasizes the necessity of a constructive dialogue between jurisprudence and modern sciences to achieve more precise criteria in detecting transformation.

Analyzing the authenticity of purity and halit of imported products with a halal trademark from the perspective of jurisprudence

In contemporary times, with the globalization of the food supply chain and the increase in the import of processed products from non-Islamic countries, traditional jurisprudential rules such as "Souk al-Muslimin" and "Yad al-Muslimin" have lost their former effectiveness in establishing purity and halality. The emergence of the "halal trademark" as a modern solution to fill this gap has created new jurisprudential challenges regarding its Shariah validity. The main objective of this research is to explain the jurisprudential foundations and analyze the degree of Shariah validity of the halal trademark on imported products from the perspective of Imamiyyah jurisprudence. This research was conducted with a qualitative approach and a descriptive-analytical (inferential) method. Information was collected through library and documentary methods, and the data was analyzed based on jurisprudential, fundamental and international halal standards. This mark can be relied on through three jurisprudential channels: first, through the "testimony of experts", where the exporting entity acts as a trusted expert; The second is about the "foundation of the wise" based on trust in standard signs that have not been denied by the lawgiver; and the third is about the "rule of authenticity" in the act of non-halal. The conclusion of the arguments indicates that the mere presence of a halal trademark on an imported product, if the reliability of the exporting entity is established and there is no definite knowledge to the contrary, has "Shariah evidence".

Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security Paradigm in Islamic Teachings: An Interdisciplinary Analysis of Scriptural Foundations and Civilizational Experiences

In the Islamic paradigm, agriculture represents an inseparable link between sustainable economic livelihood and a sacred mandate, deeply rooted in the Quran and Sunnah. By emphasizing the responsible stewardship of natural resources, the Holy Quran characterizes cultivation not merely as a tool for economic independence, but as a religious obligation. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of scriptural teachings to elucidate the central position of agriculture within the Islamic framework, demonstrating that this productive activity functions as a form of "high worship" and a manifestation of spiritual virtues such as tawakkul and patience. The theoretical foundation is based on the principle that knowledge-based resource management with sincere intention leads to "Barakah"-a socio-economic and spiritual phenomenon of increased productivity. Historically, this paradigm catalyzed the "Islamic Agricultural Revolution" (9th–13th centuries), which established sustainable food security through innovations in hydraulic engineering and crop diversification. Furthermore, this paper adopts a problem-oriented approach to propose novel solutions for contemporary environmental crises. Reconstructing the human role from an exploiter to a "Divine Steward" (Khalifah) provides a necessary ontological basis for ecological balance. Key findings include the extraction of the "Josephian Strategic Model" for crisis management, the utilization of jurisprudential (Fiqh) concepts against waste (Israf) for water conservation, and linking land ownership to biological reclamation. Ultimately, this theological-historical approach seeks food security through ecosystem health and social justice, offering a viable complement to Western developmental models in global environmental policymaking.
