Effects of mentioning Bismillah in eating habits from the perspective of divine teaching

Abstract

Background and objective: Nutrition and its customs have been taken into consideration in religious teachings like other subjects. Food has been given to humans from God for health, living, and doing daily tasks. The purpose of current research is to investigate the effects of Bismillah on eating habits from the perspective of divine teachings.
Materials and methods: The current work is a descriptive-analytical study. It was carried out by literature review and the required information was collected and analyzed. Effects of mentioning Bismillah on physical and mental nutrition in humans from religious teachings’ viewpoint by using the relevant verses, narrations, and books were investigated.
Results and conclusion: Importance of nutrition and observance of its etiquettes have been stated in religious texts, especially Qur'an. One of etiquettes in human nutrition is mention of Bismillah. When Bismillah is mentioned before eating, it has several positive outcomes including blessings in food, warding off disease, avoiding the devil, forgiveness of sins, earning good deeds, aiding on Judgment Day, and gratitude. Eating etiquettes have a special place in divine teachings, and there is a lot of emphasis on preserving and observing eating etiquette in Qur'an, traditions of the infallible (PBUH), and words of religious scholars. Mention of Bismillah before eating has positive physical and spiritual effects on humans.
