Background and Objective: Collagen is one of the main protein structures of the human body and other mammals, which, due to its degradability, biocompatibility, and natural bioactivity, has wide applications in the food, pharmaceutical medical, tissue engineering and cosmetic industries. The purpose of writing, this review article is to show the advantages of collagens of marine origin compared to collagens extracted from land mammals (e.g. cows and pigs) which, in addition to the prohibition of porcine collagen, can also transmit diseases such as swine flu and bovine spongiform encephalopathy to humans.
Results and Conclusion: According to the information obtained from the results of scientists, collagens extracted from marine organisms such as fish, mammals and other marine invertebrates, due to the health of the products obtained, the lack of transmission of diseases to human, lower cost and easier extraction methods, are suitable as alternative sources for food, pharmaceutical, tissue engineering and cosmetic health uses have been introduced in the world. Halal meat fish fillets in the country are valuable sources of collagen that can be a suitable alternative to prevent the entry of collagens of cow and pig into the country in order to comply with religious observances and maintain the health and hygiene of the society.
